Alvin Pankhurst supports another Warrior for Planet Earth The original Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior will remain an important part of NZ history. On its way to protest France's nuclear testing on Mururoa Atoll, it was sunk by French saboteurs on July 10, 1985, in Auckland Harbour. The skeleton of the ship is now at rest in a reef in the Cavallii Islands, where it has become the 'jewel of the north' attracting many scuba divers with its rainbow coloured jewelled anemones and sponges. This year is the 25th anniversary of the original bombing and the birth of the third Rainbow Warrior ship. Greenpeace are currently fundraising for this new custom built environmental campaigning ship and Alvin Pankhurst is donating two limited edition prints to a dedicated Greenpeace Art Auction being held by Webbs on 20th October. Judy was lucky enough to exhibit her work at the Florence Biennale at the end of last year and a feature article in Gallery36 Vol 2 No 2 2010 shares her experience of exhibiting overseas. Art Valuations How much are my paintings worth? 'Value' or 'worth' can be understood in a number of different contexts including historical, cultural, critical, social, monetary etc. The Art Valuation process is often very complex and can take into account a number of factors such as originality of the work, size and medium, provenance and historical sales, supporting paperwork, quality and condition, age, authenticity, demand/popularity, exhibition and publication history, plus of course artistic merit. Personal value and preference are however the major driving forces behind artwork purchases - people generally collect art because they have an innate desire for the object, so really an artwork is only worth what someone is willing to pay. We are often asked for art valuation advice, however whilst the Artfind team are art enthusiasts we do not have the experience or knowledge to provide professional advice on the estimated value of an artwork. There are however plenty of Galleries, Picture Framers, Auction Houses, Insurance Companies etc. who do provide this service. We have added some links for Art Valuation to our links page to help you out. If anyone can recommend, or provide a testimonial for a particular art valuation service provider, we would love to hear from you. Best wishes The Artfind team |
