A glistening winter evening event provides the opportunity to show off your ballroom moves to live music from the Sound of Seventeen; a 17-piece Edinburgh based big band. The band have played at the North sea, Montreux and Cork Jazz festivals and are sure to add grandeur to the evening. On the evening you will be welcomed out of the November cold and into the spectacularly transformed Dance Base. Dance Base have promised to glam up big style especially for the event and studio 1 will be transformed into a true 21st century ballroom. This placement, funded by Creative Scotland, is a unique opportunity to work in the Education Department of Scotland's largest National Performing Company. Scottish Opera are looking for a well organised, energetic and enthusiastic music student or graduate to assist the Music Leader of Scottish Opera's Connect Orchestra. You will be an accomplished player of one orchestral instrument. An ability to speak in front of large groups is essential and any previous experience of instrumental tutoring with young people would be desirable.
Connect Orchestra is a course for 16-21 year old orchestral musicians, giving an introduction to the training and experience needed to accompany opera. You will play an active role in the delivery and planning of the Connect Orchestra sessions and provide teaching support. You will be involved in CPD sessions, production rehearsals and performances throughout the programme. You may be required to assist with conducting and the production and arrangement of music. The position is based in Scottish Opera's Production Studios in central Glasgow, but the organisation rehearses and performs throughout the city.

Now into its second year, Fonic is an exciting collaboration between four major music organisations in Glasgow: Glasgow's Concert Halls, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Ensemble. It is supported by The List. The organisations behind Fonic seek to appoint a voluntary project manager to be responsible for supervising the scheme, spearheading and encouraging volunteers to sign up and providing a point of contact for Fonic networkers. This is an exciting opportunity for a person looking for a career in arts marketing and provides an opportunity to work with many of Scotland's leading musical bodies. In order to advance the City of Edinburgh Council Cultural Policy, Creative Scotland (formerly the Scottish Arts Council) and the City of Edinburgh Culture and Sport Division established a scheme of funding that addresses current gaps in resources available to individual artists and makers. Formerly known as the Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award (EVAAC), the scheme has now been divided into 2 separate funds - the Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (VAA) and the Craft Maker Awards: Edinburgh (CMA).
Now in the 11th successful year, the schemes offer awards to individuals living and/or working in Edinburgh towards costs involved in developing new work. Awards up to a maximum value of £1,000 are available (minimum award £100).

Formerly known as the Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award Scheme (EVAAC), the Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (VAA) and Craft Maker Awards: Edinburgh (CMA) schemes have supported over 200 proposals to develop new work and creative practice.
To celebrate the ongoing success of these schemes, the City of Edinburgh Council's Culture and Sport Division will present an exhibition highlighting some of the supported individuals and their work at the City Art Centre from November 2011 to February 2012.
To qualify for selection, artists and makers must have received funding between the financial years 2000/01 and 2009/10 from at least one of the following schemes - Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award (EVAAC), Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (VAA) and/or Craft Maker Awards: Edinburgh (CMA). Funded projects must have concluded and a final report submitted to and approved by the scheme administrator.
