"Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" Robin Williams
"One swallow does not make a spring, nor does one fine day" Aristotle
"O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?" Percy Bysshe Shelley
Spring would not be spring if it wasn't for the dark and drab winter months that come before. When the first green shoots start poking up through the mud it's a feeling like falling in love again. It's a time of rebirth, fertility, regeneration. Song birds start going bonkers. And in Trafalgar Square the pigeons start strutting about and behaving like puffed-up Casanovas.
For artists, it's a time of inspiration and productivity: greens have never been greener, flowers have never smelled sweeter, and nothing, not even the rain, can quell the feeling that things are going to get better.
Paul Podhorski's captures the ecstasy of spring in a wild garden in 'Blossing Trees' , while Victor Knack's 'Spring' catches the moment the countryside starts to come alive. Other fantastic vernal landscapes include Will Smith's 'Spring in Langdale' and Geoffrey Smith's 'Spring Sunshine, Staithes Beck.'
So let's take our inspiration from the birds and get fresh! | |
