Meet artist Randy Pijoan

Oil painter Randy Pijoan has an impressive art lineage: His great-grandfather, José Pijoan, was a famous art historian who taught all over the world, wrote 26 volumes of art history, and was friends with Pablo Picasso. Randy continues this artistic legacy through his own painting as well as through contributing to the art community. He established an artist-in-residence program near his home in Amalia, NM, and also started an art program for disadvantaged kids in the nearby San Luis Valley of Colorado. Learn more about Randy and watch him at work as we visit with him in his studio.

Report from Jackson Hole

Southwest Art senior editor Bonnie Gangelhoff recently traveled to Wyoming for the annual Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival. She attended the Jackson Hole Art Auction and the Western Visions show at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, where Don Crowley's painting "That Certain Smile" (above) won the People's Choice Award. Call for Entries

The Artist's Magazine, a sister publication to Southwest Art, is holding an All-Media Competition. Artists can enter online in any of seven different categories: oil; watercolor; acrylic; pastel; colored pencil; mixed media; and graphite, charcoal, and ink. The grand-prize winner receives $500 and has his or her work published in the July-August 2011 issue of The Artist's Magazine. The seven first-place winners will be posted on the magazine's website. Go to The Artist's Magazine website to enter. Deadline for submissions is November 1.
