In the Galleries

Skunder (Alexander) Boghossian, Night Flight of Dread and Delight (detail)Ethiopian-born artist Skunder Boghossian’s Night Flight of Dread and Delight (1964) is a startling vision. The painting summons the forces of creation with space warps and folds, forms coalescing out of the void, and birdlike spirits soaring through the bejeweled sky. Like surrealism, Boghossian's art is influenced by a fascination with dreams, the irrational, and unorthodox painting techniques.

See it for yourself in the Contemporary Gallery in West Building.

Museum Park

Redesigned pond in the Museum Park

Finally it feels like fall! Take advantage of the cooler autumn weather to visit the Park and admire the Museum’s transformed pond.

With generous support from the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund, the pond has been redesigned to manage storm water before it enters North Carolina’s streams and rivers. Planted terraces slow runoff and filter water through porous soils, wetland plants, and open water.

Iris, the Museum Restaurant

Indulge in fall flavors at Iris as Chef Andy Hicks incorporates local autumn produce into the restaurant’s seasonally inspired dishes. Make a reservation to taste the bounty of the harvest season.
