Based on the research of John Marciari, the Curator of European Art and Head of Provenance Research at the Museum, a seventeenth-century Spanish painting portraying The Education of the Virgin in the collection of the Yale University Art Gallery has been reattributed to Diego Velázquez.  In this lecture, Dr. Marciari will present the case for the reattribution in a tale of discovery, detective work, and commentary on the art world's reluctance to admit new works to the canon.
