Expand Your Creativity! Discover how to translate emotion into paint on canvas with this week's artistsnetwork.tv video, Beyond Realism with Brian Ryder, Part 1. Brian leads you from reference photos and the experience of the landscape, through a series of watercolor, acrylic and oil sketches to establish the values, color, mood and composition of the scene, getting to know the subject and loosening up as you go. He then shows you techniques to move beyond realism to a bolder, more abstract version of a poppy-filled landscape as he paints it from start to finish.
Create More Textures in Pen & Ink! In case you missed last week's artistsnetwork.tv video workshop, Creating Textures in Pen & Ink with Watercolor with Claudia Nice, Part 2 takes you through the steps to paint a tabby cat and then a gull by the beach in pen, ink and watercolor. You'll learn how to create criss-cross lines for wavy fur, use a dotty pattern for texture in the eyes, as well as techniques for brush and pen texture in the surrounding scenery--woodgrain, pebbles, clouds and more.
