End of 2010 shout out to hosts, artists and friends...

art*o*mat news Friday, December 31, 2010 2010 was a very active year for the Art-o-mat® project. we built and installed 20 machines…which is double what we installed in 2009. on top of that, our artists have really stepped up and helped keep our new and existing machines filled. so, thanks a bunch and keep up the good work! here are our new venues from 2010. two of our hosts got machine upgrades. so, that counts. it is an honor have these great venues as machine hosts. suny cortland - cortland, ny boynton health services - minneapolis whole foods market - dallas breakfast of course - winston-salem radio room - portland, or ms magoo's house of style - norfolk my addiction gallery- tucson scott blake & the bemis center for contemporary arts - omaha chandler center for the arts - chandler fresh produce - sioux falls cairns regional council - cairns, australia smithsonian american art museum - washington - dc old winston social club - winston-salem ben ellcome & project one newport - newport, ri southeastern center for contemporary art - winston-salem the cosmopolitan of las vegas - 5 machines on site…with a 6th on the way. best of luck tonight! most of our activity from 2010 is pictured in our flickr site. pics of 2010 installs. also, we have a few partners that need a pat on the back for coming through during the countless pinches we had this year. everything vw pololu robotics and electronics capital vending also, also...we lost both of our long time studio dogs in 2010. so, we would like to dedicate this nye to butterfinger and maggie. with that said, when the ball drops, jethro will be officially promoted from studio dog intern to director of guest relations. congratulations, ya nut. ;) fyi: he has a facebook account. jethro last, here is some recent press. art-o-mat: a winston-salem icon have a safe & happy new years eve! But, it is nice that Fall has officially settled in. Here are a few things happening this month…… Art-O-Mat archive at SECCA A selection of the AIC/Art-o-mat® permanent collection will be on display at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art. This is a great opportunity to see rare works from 1997 until today. Part of the display will be a collection of international Art-o-mat work mounted on a large map indicating the country of origin. The opening Reception (in conjunction with 2 other SECCA exhibits) is Thursday, November 18th from 7:00-10:00pm and will be on display until Spring. Please visit www. secca.org for more information. Sneak Peek- click here A New Newport Art-o-mat! After taking a break for a few years, an Art-o-mat returns to Newport, Rhode Island. Thanks to Project One Newport, East Bay Met School and Ben Ellcome…we will have a very unique machine back on the island. The goal of this machine is to literally and overtly make it part of the community. This machine is arriving in it's old, semi-gross original brown finish. But, soon it will be repainted by local organizations, youth groups, artists, etc and filled with work by these groups. So, this machine may be refaced several times a year. We are looking forward to seeing how locals make it part of their own. Also, it feels great to be working with Project One Newport again. It is like reconnecting with an old friend. ;) The opening is November 19 at 7:00 pm at the People’s Café on 282 Thames Street.
