Teachers with valid ID also receive a 12% discount in the SAM SHOP all year round! | THE ELEMENTS OF ART This month’s newsletter focuses on the elements of art found throughout the Seattle Art Museum global collections. The elements of art are the fundamental building blocks of the visual arts and provide a common vocabulary with which to read works of art that span cultures and time periods. Similar to any discipline, mastering the basics helps advance more complex understandings. Learning the foundational concepts of the visual arts such as color, line, shape, space and texture will enhance students' abilities to be creative, think critically, look closely and make larger connections.
Below are descriptions of SAM’s School + Educator programs designed around the elements of art. Please be sure to also check out the many resources at the Teacher Resource Center which can beborrowed for free and shared with your students.
PLEASE NOTE: The Seattle Art Museum's facilities and administrative offices will be closed January 31 through February 15 for a furlough. This is part of a museum wide initiative to reduce our 2011 budget.
