This Japanese art form has influenced the artworks of Taiwanese-American artist James Jean, best known for his Eisner-award-winning cover art for Vertigo/ DC comics’ popular Fables series. Neil Kendricks, filmmaker, artist and MCASD film curator, will present a visual travelogue through the richly evocative and surreal dreamscapes of Jean’s paintings and sketchbooks to examine how this artist - with one foot in comics and another in the art world - is developing his own distinct visual language of provocative, personal imagery. | | Learn More | | Friday, March 4, 7:00 pre-film lecture, 8:00 p.m. film James S. Copley Auditorium $5 members, students, military, seniors / $10 nonmembers | | In conjunction with the exhibition Howard Hodgkin: Time and Place, the Museum will be screening a documentary on this painter from Alan Yentob’s BBC television series Imagine. The film follows Howard from his England studio to India, a place whose art has long been of interest to Hodgkin. Before the film, Asian Art Curator Dr. Sonya Quintanilla will discuss the influence of Indian art on Hodgkin’s paintings.
