Neil Kendricks on Contemporary Comics

Saturday, February 26, 12:00 noon
Free after Museum admission

Did you know that ukiyo-e has impacted contemporary comics? This Japanese art form has influenced the artworks of Taiwanese-American artist James Jean, best known for his Eisner-award-winning cover art for Vertigo/ DC comics’ popular Fables series. Neil Kendricks, filmmaker, artist and MCASD film curator, will present a visual travelogue through the richly evocative and surreal dreamscapes of Jean’s paintings and sketchbooks to examine how this artist - with one foot in comics and another in the art world - is developing his own distinct visual language of provocative, personal imagery.
