Winter/Spring Film Series

Leave Her to Heaven
Friday, February 4 | 8 pm
Museum Auditorium

Leave Her to Heaven

We begin Film Noir February with 20th Century Fox's top-grossing film of the 1940s, a dark portrait of obsessive love, which brought Gene Tierney her only Oscar nomination. Martin Scorsese says in an introduction to Leave Her to Heaven—one of his all-time favorite movies—that the new Technicolor Fox Archive print we're screening is as gorgeous as any he has ever seen. Films like this were made for the big screen, “where the blue-velvet skies and the lethally smooth waters of Leave Her to Heaven acquire the unquestioned clarity of a fever dream” (Anthony Lane, New Yorker).

Leave Her to Heaven
(1945) Directed by John M. Stahl. Gene Tierney, Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain, Darryl Hickman. (107 min.)

“I’ll never let you go, never, never,” says Ellen to the man she loves. Her possessiveness becomes terrifyingly psychotic in this dazzling Technicolor film noir.
