Royal Lyceum Theatre

A View From The BridgeView from the Bridge
Until Saturday 12 February

It's the final week of this fantastic play at the Lyceum! Don't miss out!

"This is absolutely stunning." Lothian Life - FIVE STARS

"has a power that leaves audiences gasping" The Scotsman - FOUR STARS

"triumphant, soul-shaking... Dove's production marks the completion of a masterly series"
The Guardian FOUR STARS

"There are few directors more sensitive to Miller's world than John Dove... [a] masterly production" The Herald - FOUR STARS

"a slick, engrossing production... understated yet quietly devastating" The List - FOUR STARS

Arthur Miller's modern social tragedy explores the life and loves of the family of a dock worker in post-war New York. Eddie Carbone lives with his wife and niece, a happy enough family with an intense love and sense of duty locking them together. But life becomes a struggle for meaning when the family is rocked by the arrival of two illegal immigrant cousins, and tensions mount as an eruption of violence beckons. For more information, please visit www.lyceum.org.uk/view.

Age of ArousalAge of Arousal
Friday 18 February - Saturday 12 March
1885 - a time of great passion, great confusion. Virtue is barely holding down its petticoats. Women are bursting their corsets with unbridled desire. Determined to make women rich, ex-militant suffragette Mary Barfoot and her devoted protégé and lover Rhoda enlist female students to master the new invention that will gain them freedom - the typewriter. Three spinster sisters are invited into the school to rescue them from poverty, setting in motion an odyssey of alcoholism, cross dressing and sexual revolution. Enter Everard Barfoot, Mary's cousin, an ex-doctor in his 30s about to embark on a life of leisure, and suddenly all the characters in this lavish sexy ensemble piece are erupting with discoveries, contradictions and epiphanies. Genre busting, rule-bending and ambitiously original.

True GritTrue Grit

From Friday 11 February

The Coen Brothers' adaptation of Charles Portis' novel is definitely not what we have come to expect from them. Out goes the Brothers' familiar eccentric, quirky humour, and in comes a decidedly more straightforward cinematic artistry -and what a great decision!? A wonderfully realistic and believable evocation of Western times, and brilliant performances by Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon.
