A multi-disciplinary performance of dance, music, and video projection by Malashock Dance celebrates some of the narratives from the Japanese woodblock prints in Dreams and Diversions: 250 Years of Japanese Woodblock Prints. The exhibition is comprised of a type of print called ukiyo-e, which translates to ‘pictures of the floating world.’ The Floating World will re-imagine these prints and showcase them on enormous, in-the-round, screens, while telling the story of 13 Views of the Dance Company on Tour. In addition to the choreography of John Malashock, The Floating World will feature the work of video artist Tara Knight, the musical scoring of Zoe Keating, and costumes designed by Zandra Rhodes. By mixing the artistry of the historical prints with meticulously crafted contemporary dance, music, and costuming, old worlds will be blended with new ones for a completely unique experience. Bring your Floating World ticket to the Museum for free admission the day of the performance. Student tickets are available for purchase at the Museum Admission Desk with student ID. |
