BOSTON, MA (REUTERS=.- Glass artist Dale Chihuly says his well of inspiration never runs dry, even after some 40 years pushing the boundaries of his medium. "Just working with the material brings forth a lot of ideas, in both the glass blowing and in working with the glass after it's been blown," Chihuly, 69, said on the sidelines of his major new exhibit at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. "Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass," 12 installations that live up to their Alice in Wonderland billing, opens on April 10 and will run through August in the recently opened Art of the Americas wing. The exhibit features a mix of new and early works from Chihuly, perhaps the foremost artist now working in glass and, with his distinctive curly hair and eye patch, certainly the most recognizable. The installations contain some 7,000 individual pieces, including Mille Fiori (Italian for "a thousand flowers"), a 58-foot-long (17-meter) installation d ... BROOKLYN, NY.- The Brooklyn Museum will present the first wide-ranging exploration of American art from the decade whose beginning and end were marked by the aftermath of World War I and the onset of the Great Depression. Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties, which includes some 138 paintings, sculptures, and photographs by 67 artists, will be on view from October 28, 2011 through January 29, 2012 prior to a national tour. American life was dramatically transformed in the years following the Great War, as urbanization, industrialization, mechanization, and rampant materialism altered the environment and the way people lived. American artists responded to this dizzying modern world with works that embraced a new brand of idealized realism to evoke a seemingly perfect modern world. The twenties saw a vigorous renewal of figurative art that melded uninhibited body-consciousness with classical ideals. ... LONDON.- Lisson Gallery presents an exhibition of work by Rashid Rana. Rana is widely considered to be the most prominent and original contemporary artist working in South Asia today. Through his work Rana explores constructs of media and identity, reflecting upon and critiquing the impact of globalisation worldwide whilst simultaneously exploring the local and competing influences of tradition and modernity in contemporary South Asia and Pakistan. Lisson Gallerys Curatorial Director Greg Hilty says, Rashid Ranas work demonstrates a powerful interplay between formal structure and highly charged content, creating a genuine hybrid of Asian and Western artistic traditions. MUNICH.- "Bocas de Ceniza" marks the beginning of the cooperation between the collection Goetz and Haus der Kunst. From now through 2014, Ingvild Goetz will regularly present works from her collection of film and media art in the 14 cabinet-like rooms of Haus der Kunst's air raid shelter. In its first presentation, "Bocas de Ceniza" responds to the theme given by the premises: The selected films deal with war experiences and the consequences of war, reflecting these both from the perspective of the military, as well as from the perspective of individual civilian survivors. The selection of works does not allow a clear distinction between films about perpetrators on the one hand and about victims on the other. Rather, the members of the military and civilian population have one significant element in common: Both suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder for years after the war is over and are left alone with ... NEW YORK, NY.- Paul Kasmin Gallery Project space, in collaboration with Romer Young Gallery, San Francisco, present a solo exhibition by the New York artist Liam Everett. Everetts installation Cura consists of a recent group of paintings, which the artist refers to as the eclipse paintings. Working with acrylic, salt and alcohol, Everetts paintings both record and arrest a seemingly alchemical process and reflect his continued exploration of the perceptual experience. Focusing on the motion of light and its inherent ambiguity as an entity tied, inseparably, to our temporal reality, Everett establishes an immediate, hyper-present relationship with the now. The eclipse paintings engage the appearance of light rather than the image of light. Working with a spare palette of whites, grays and blacks, with hints of underlying color, Everetts paintings exist at the inte ...
