JOHN LITHGOW'S STORIES BY HEART A theatrical memoir and performance to benefit the A.R.T. Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe Award-winner John Lithgow offers a touching and humorous reflection on storytelling as the tie that binds humanity in Stories By Heart. He traces his roots as an actor and storyteller, interspersing his own stories with two classic short stories that were read to him when he was a child. Lithgow imparts the wonder and joy he felt when he first heard Wodehouse's "Uncle Fred Flits By" (1935), a funny story about a nephew taken on an afternoon's escapade by his mischievous uncle, and Lardner's "Haircut" (1925), a darkly comic tale told by the local barber about a small-town practical joker who gets his due. Proceeds from this special event will go to benefit the American Repertory Theater's season. Tickets are $75, $125, and $250 and include a tax-deductible contribution to the A.R.T. All ticket holders will receive a complimentary beverage at intermission. All $250 ticket holders will be invited to a special post-performance reception with John Lithgow. | WEEKEND OF MAY 13 - 15, 2011 THE POPULAR CITY-WIDE FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH ANOTHER EXCITING LINE-UP OBERON events start at just $15! Festival packages available - limited number, buy now.Highlights of this year's festival: * Beowulf (a raw and rowdy retelling of the Old English epic) had a successful and acclaimed performance at OBERON in 2010 - if you missed it then, now's your chance to see it. * City Council Meeting borrows from real, live tales from government meetings all over the States and improvised testimony by the audience. City Council Meeting was created by Aaron Landsman, who played George in A.R.T.'s production of Gatz in 2010. * Fornicated From the Beatles is created by Mikhael Tara Garver, the mastermind behind the sold-out Experiment at the ICA. Created for OBERON's club theater environment, Fornicated asks "what do we reveal when we come together and we think no one is watching?" * The Un-Official Guide to Audience Watching Performance brings a fusion of rap and movement to the stage from Raphael Xavier. * In Grand Theft Ovid, middle and high school students play World of Warcraft, Halo Reach, and Grand Theft Auto 4 live, using their avatars to perform tales from Ovid's Metamorphoses. | MOUTH WIDE OPEN An A.R.T. First Look Starring Amy Brenneman Directed by Sabrina Peck Tickets from $25! Soulful, transcendent, laugh-out-loud funny, Amy Brenneman (Private Practice, Judging Amy, Heat) returns to her theatrical roots in this exuberant piece drawn from her own life experience that juxtaposes a hunger for the spiritual with the externalized pressures of celebrity. From a Tibetan temple in Kathmandu to an evangelical church in the Mississippi Delta, from the hype of the red carpet to the cold reality of a hospital room, Brenneman is our guide on an epic journey that takes us to the place where illness and spirituality collide. This fearless look at the ecstatic, irreverent, and sometimes excruciating dance between the sacred and the profane harnesses the intimacy of a confessional and the heightened theatricality of the stage as Brenneman tells her story with dazzling candor.
