12-Hour Member Preview Celebration
THURS, JUNE 9, 10 AM–10 PM
Explore three thousand years of Chinese art and culture in five exhibitions! Join us for this special 12-hour Member Preview as we celebrate the Summer of CHINA. Take a docent-led tour, enjoy Café Calatrava’s Chinese-inspired menu, discover treasures in the Museum Store, hear from guest curator Nancy Berliner of the Peabody Essex Museum in lectures* at 1:30 and 6:15 p.m., and more. Mark your calendars for all the can’t-miss, exhibition-related programs through September.
The highlight of the Museum’s ambitious summer-long series is The Emperor’s Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see murals, paintings, furniture, architectural and garden components, jades, and cloisonné from the eighteenth-century emperor’s garden compound within the Forbidden City. Having already received rave reviews in the Boston Globe, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times, the exhibition is making its third and final stop at the Museum before the objects are permanently reinstalled in the restored palace in Beijing.
Four additional exhibitions complete your Summer of CHINA experience:
- • Warriors, Beasts, and Spirits: Early Chinese Art from the James Conley Collection
- • Emerald Mountains: Modern Chinese Ink Paintings from the Chu-tsing Li Collection
- • On Site: Zhan Wang
- • Way of the Dragon: The Chinoiserie Style, 1710–1830 (opens June 30)
*Lectures are ticketed. Tickets distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at Admissions starting at 10 a.m. on event day only. See calendar listing for complete details.
