Mentors & Their Students
In the July issue, which will be on newsstands soon, we recognize three well-known painters who are also well-known teachers. Take C.W. Mundy, whose students include Brent Jensen, Barbara Flowers, and Todd Williams. His painting VENICE GONDOLAS is shown above. Mundy teaches his personal system of painting based on seven key elements: drawing, squinting, design, value, color, edges, and paint manipulation. "You have to assess and direct what you want to do [in your art]," he explains. "If you don't, you become a copy artist. But once you understand the science, you can take control, and your individual style and spirit as an artist can evolve."
