| Reverend Howard Finster always had something to say. At age 16, he began preaching, building churches and holding tent revivals. After building his first garden park and running out of room, he and his family moved to Pennville, GA, in 1961 where he began building Paradise Gardens. Throughout the garden he put up signs with Bible verses on them because "he felt that they stuck in people's heads better that way." In his lifetime, Finster completed over 46,000 pieces of original art works including album covers for R.E.M. and the Talking Heads. In nearly every piece of Finster's art, he has a message for the viewer. Whether it be a bible verse or his love of Coca-Cola, he wanted people to hear what he had to say. Come see what other messages he had for you during You Better Be Listening: Text in Self-Taught Art. Howard Finster Absolut Georgia Promised Gift of Kevin Cole |
