In the Galleries

In Three Graces: Les Trois Femmes Noires
, Brooklyn artist Mickalene Thomas transforms the traditional image of the Three Graces into a colorful, contemporary celebration of African American power and beauty. The painting, recently acquired by the NCMA, depicts three women dressed up and ready for a night on the town. Their bright, bold patterns draw attention to their feminine figures, and their poses ooze confidence and sex appeal.

See this new acquisition to the permanant collection in the Contemporary galleries in West Building. More work by Thomas is also on view in 30 Americans.
