Farewell to Summer

The summer of 2011 will be remembered for dramatic acts of nature—record-breaking heat, an earthquake, and a hurricane that forced us to cancel, sadly, the highly anticipated Carolina Chocolate Drops concert.

But many more happy memories will linger from the great performances and outdoor movies that made this one of our best summer series ever. Over 1,400 kids and adults turned out to see the 25th anniversary screening of Back to the Future on our big screen. And before summer ends, there’s wonderful family entertainment yet to come to the Museum Park Theater!

Paperhand Puppet InterventionPaperhand Puppet Intervention
September 9, 10, 11 | 6:30 pm

The Paperhand Puppet Intervention has come forward with another stellar production called The Serpent’s Egg, which will be performed over three nights.

Family Fun in the Setting Sun!
Dan Zanes and Friends
Saturday, September 17 | 6 pm

The fun begins when gates open at 4:30 pm and the Scrap Exchange brings recycled and reused materials to make unique musical instruments!

Dan Zanes is one of the country’s best-known and highly regarded children’s performers. We especially value him and his bandmates for their integrity, superb musicianship, and wide-ranging repertoire that never panders and can be enjoyed by music lovers of any age. He’s the only artist we’ve invited to perform with us for three consecutive summers.

N.E.D.
Saturday, October 1 | 4 pm

Finally, we close our summer season with a FREE outdoor performance by the remarkable rock band N.E.D., which stands for “No Evidence of Disease.” The band is made up of distinguished cancer docs who are also critically acclaimed musicians and songwriters.

This special event is sponsored by Rex Healthcare and UNC Health Care in support of women with cancer. Great music for a great cause.

Hello to Fall

For our movie lovers, we have recently posted the schedule for our Fall Film Series, which celebrates surrealism in cinema and begins Friday, September 16.

We also look forward to a concert by piano-jazz artist Lenore Raphael and her trio, Sunday, October 2, at 3 pm in the Museum Auditorium.

Additional Information

Picnics are always welcome, and at summer concerts Iris, the Museum Restaurant, provides a varied and delicious menu including a selection of fine wines and beers. Concessions are offered for all films.

If you plan on sitting on the lawn for a concert or movie, don't forget your blankets and folding chairs. But remember to leave your pets at home, as they are not allowed in the amphitheater.

Be sure to check out additional information such as our weather policy and rules regarding food and alcohol.

Box Office

Tickets are available online, at the Museum Box Office in East Building, or by calling (919) 715-5923.

The Museum Box Office opens 90 minutes prior to all outdoor performances and films. No refunds or exchanges, unless event is canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
