Cassius Cassini's abstract, urban art and modern portraits radiate cool! His work is stylish, light and clued in. His 'new mix media' images represent popular culture - trendy reminders of the Pop Art movement - and characterise all that is current in contemporary modern living. His artwork personifies his boundless energy but with a firm business mind, shrewd self-promotion and aspirations of 'breaking into the art world', the future looks bright for this Art-ist. 'Cassius Cassini', the colourful pseudonym of Yorkshire based artist Phil Dalton. Be it a commercial tactic, or a regressive call for attention, the notion of the alter-ego bears an undeniable appeal for contemporary artists and it is not uncommon for artists to take on different personalities in their work. The alter-ego presents an alternate, transformed, or idealized self. From the aging portrait of Oscar Wilde's character Dorian Gray to Clark Kent's swift phone-booth transformation, the alter-ego has functioned as a literary device to manifest our deepest desires and compensate for our human limitations. Speculation and analysis aside, Cassius Cassini is making his mark in the pop art world whilst Phil Dalton enjoys his anonymity. Encouraged by the affluent careers of modern art champions Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstien, Piet Mondrian, Willem de Kooning and Francis Bacon, Cassini gleans insight from the past and spices it with a contemporary, post-modern flavour. Cassini speaks with poise about his artistic outlook, 'There is no substitute for disciplines necessary to create great visual art. The principles of good design and composition are here bent to new heights. Good art is produced when the idea, the media, the artistic skills are combined with personal integrity...' Cassini works with mixed media, Acrylics, Lazertran, Corel Painter, Digital Art, Marker Pens and now Spray Paints, 'I love to paint modern culture and come in at a different angle with my art', he says. Since childhood, even before the birth of Cassius, Phil was never without sketchpad in hand. His influences are manifold, with music and poetry playing a potent role in providing for his prolific creative output. 'I do see myself in the next few years devoting lots of time to developing my art and hopefully breaking into the art world ...
