Fall Film SeriesDrunken Angel We continue our retrospective of Akira Kurosawa's work with the film he considered the first made exactly as he wanted, without interference from censors of the Japanese military or the American Army of the Occupation. Critics considered it the artistic equivalent of an Italian neorealistic film, like Bicycle Thieves, and lead actor Toshiro Mifune's performance as explosive as Marlon Brando's onstage in A Streetcar Named Desire.
