|  Halloween Happenings As Halloween's ghostly ghouls and spectral skeletons prepare to make their annual appearance, get into a morbid mood with this month's self-guide, "Memento Mori," a tour of works that remind us of our inevitable mortality. Or for some lighter Halloween fare, stop in for Family Programs' Costume Creations on October 30 and 31, 11:00-3:00. Kids can bring their own ideas or find inspiration in the museum's collection as they design a wearable art piece to celebrate the season.

|  Honoring a Legend It is not often that someone becomes a legend in his or her own lifetime, but Dr. Margaret Burroughs—a Chicago Public School educator, the founder of both the South Side Community Arts Center and the DuSable Museum of African American History, and a revered artist—is a legend and more. On October 22, the Art Institute of Chicago's Leadership Advisory Committee recognizes Burroughs's tremendous accomplishments with the Legends and Legacy Award. This award was first bestowed on Burroughs's friend Elizabeth Catlett in 2005. Purchase tickets to join this momentous event and honor Dr. Burroughs's legacy with a personal tribute.
