BUDAPEST (AP).- Hungary will auction off 230 communist-era relics, including a life-size bust of former Soviet dictator Vladimir Lenin, to benefit the victims of last month's red sludge flood. The objects, which also include paintings in the Socialist realism style and photographs of Hungary's communist-era leaders, were found in state warehouses and ministries "where they have been gathering dust for the past 20 years," Bence Retvari, Hungary's state secretary, said Monday. "The state does not want to look after these communist relics anymore," he added. The auction will be held Dec. 6 at the Pinter Gallery in the capital, Budapest. The revenue will go to Caritas, a Catholic charity, to help residents in several western towns left devastated by an Oct. 4 flood of toxic red sludge from a plant reservoir. JERUSALEM.- A 1,800 year old bathing pool that was probably part of a bathhouse used by the Tenth Legion the Roman soldiers who destroyed the Temple was exposed in excavations the Israel Antiquities Authority. The discovery sheds light on the scope of Aelia Capitolina, the city that was founded on the Second Temple period ruins of Jerusalem and that defined the character of ancient Jerusalem as we know it today. Through 25 December 2010, the artworks of recently bereaved master Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong belonging to Singapore are exhibited at the Zhejiang Art Museum in Hangzhou. Donation of Two Works by Leading Irish Sculptor James McKenna to the Irish Museum of Modern Art DUBLIN.-The donation of two works by leading Irish sculptor James McKenna to the Irish Museum of Modern Art, made by Desmond, Vivienne, Kate and Bebhinn Egan, was celebrated at an event at the Museum. The more recent donation Aisling, Scariff, 1964, is one of McKennas early works, showing his focus on the human body expressed using classical means. It is currently on show as part of the Museums hugely popular exhibition, The Moderns: the Arts in Ireland from the 1900s to the 1970s. This generous gift follows a donation by the Egan family in 2007 of McKennas granite sculpture Ferdia for nÁth/Ferdia at the Ford, 1989, which is on permanent display beside the west avenue at IMMA.
