Fall Film Series

Films from the A/V Geeks Collection
Friday, November 12 | 8 pm
Museum Auditorium

A/V Geeks

Skip Elsheimer, the visionary behind A/V Geeks, shares vintage educational films from his archive, touching on the hopes and fears evoked by Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms paintings: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Worship, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom from Fear. Painted in 1942, America's first full year in World War II, and sent out on a national tour, these works inspired the sale of $100 million in war bonds. Skip's programs are always hugely entertaining, full of laughs as well as thoughtful moments. Join us for this one-of-a-kind show. Some of the evening’s highlights:

Despotism
(1946)
This film challenges viewers to rate their government on a scale ranging from democracy to despotism.

Day of Thanksgiving
(1950)
A family that can't afford a fancy Thanksgiving dinner reflects on what is truly important to them.

How to Lose What We Have
(1950)
A family learns how apathy at the polls can lead to a loss of freedoms, including free enterprise.

Freedom Comes High
(1944)
This family sacrificed in the name of freedom; what sacrifice can you make—perhaps buying war bonds?

Strictly G. I.
(1943)
This film was made to boost morale of the WWII troops and audiences; it features an all-star cast.
