LONDON.  In a major stroke of cultural diplomacy, the Chinese government gets its own long-term exhibition space in the heart of Rome under a new agreement; an Italian exhibition hall will likewise open in the National Museum of China in Beijing after Italian culture minister Sandro Bondi and his Chinese counterpart Cai Wu signed a cultural co-operation deal in Rome. Under the renewable agreement, the Chinese government will oversee a 600 sq. m space at the Palazzo di Venezia in Rome for the next five years. “The aim is to house a state museum of Chinese culture,” according to an Italian Culture Ministry statement. Nam June Paik at Tate Liverpool

exhibition pictureLIVERPOOL. Performer, composer and video art pioneer Nam June Paik is to have his first major exhibition in the UK. The show at Tate Liverpool spans the Korean-born artist’s entire career, from documentary material relating to his early Fluxus performances of the late 1950s and early 1960s, to video and TV installations created over the following few decades, as well as laser works that Paik continued to make into the 21st century before his death in 2006. Sook-Kyung Lee, the curator of the Liverpool leg of the exhibition (the show first opened at the Museum Kunst Palast, Düsseldorf, in September), intends to bring Paik’s revolutionary work to a British audience, with an emphasis on his earlier practice...
