Paint Loose, Juicy Flowers! Charles Reid is back with artistsnetwork.tv this week to teach his techniques for juicy watercolors! Painting Flowers in Watercolor, Part 1 begins with exercises on contour drawing designed to provide you with a way to loosen up and become familiar with your subject. Then explore color mixing, composition, values, edges, brushwork, saving whites and using negative space as Charles guides you through several paintings from start to finish, for juicy, loose paintings that dance with light and achieve a wonderful balance between spontaneity and structure.
Angelic Skin Tones Made Easy Follow along with Angelic Vision: Watercolor Details with Angela Sasser (a BONUS video, new this week at artistsnetwork.tv) to paint skintones that glow and shimmer. Angela demonstrates a variety of basic skin tones as she paints angels and elves, layering color to create depth and luminosity for figures that come to life on the page.
Move Beyond Realism In case you missed last week's artistsnetwork.tv video, Beyond Realism with Brian Ryder, Part 2 takes you through pen-and-wash and then oil sketches to investigate shapes and possibilities, and to help you capture the essence of your subject. These initial sketches will help reinforce your ideas about the composition. Then move onto a larger canvas to complete a finished abstract painting step by step, using acrylics and some oil pastel with focus on texture, color, shape and composition for a dramatic final piece.
Sneak Peek! Colin Bradley brings his pastel tips back to artistsnetwork.tv next week with Draw & Paint Wildlife with Pastel Pencils, Part 1. In this video workshop, you'll learn to use your pastel pencils to paint realistic wildlife step by step. From the comical grin and deep, dark hair of a chimpanzee, to the classic black and white fur and serene expression of a panda, to the wonderfully varied markings on a tiger, Colin guides you from initial photo and line drawing to finishing highlights. Along the way he shares techniques for strokework, blending and layering. By the end of this video you will have animals that come to life on the paper.
