The Christmas shows may be almost over, but there's still plenty to do in Edinburgh . In fact, there's a whole new season of events bursting forth on the Edinburgh arts scene. There are new events at the National Museum of Scotland, a fresh run of classes at the Lyceum theatre and the highly-awaited Voice of a City Family Day with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Edinburgh City of Literature coming up early next month. Voice of a City Family Day and Concert

The Voice Of A City Concert Saturday 5 February, 3pm The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is joined by singers of all ages from across Edinburgh for a family concert celebrating the city's riches in music and words from past and present. The concert opens with The Land of Counterpane - poems from Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses set to music by Howard Blake, composer of The Snowman. It's followed by The Voice of a City, an affectionate portrait of Edinburgh by Edward Harper which brings the streets of Auld Reekie alive with the help of the One o'Clock Gun, Sean Connery, Miss Jean Brodie and many others. The SCO is joined by a massed community choir of all ages and City Organist John Kitchen, conducted by Garry Walker. Tickets: Adults £10, Senior Citizens £8, Under 16s/Students £5, Family Ticket £25. Scots Story And SongEnjoy a taste of traditional Scots story and song for all ages, in these 30-minute sessions from storytellers Ewan McVicar and Stuart McHardy. 10.30am / 11.30am / 1pm BookbugThese 30-minute fun and lively activity sessions are for families with children from birth to 4. Come along to join in with songs, rhymes and a story. 11am & 1.30pm Composition session: setting words to musicCome along to this interactive demonstration - for older teens and adults - delivered by music staff and students from Stevenson College Edinburgh. Bring a favourite contemporary poem you'd like to set to an original musical accompaniment - or just drop in and listen. 12pm - 2pm iComposeTry your hand at creating and playing music. These 30-minute workshops are open to children and parents of all ages, with no need for prior musical knowledge. On top of the Voice of a City Family Day, Let's Get Lyrical has plenty of events lined up around this city this coming February. Highlights include: Family-Friendly Backstage Tours Royal Lyceum Theatre Saturday 5 February, 10am and 11am Tread the boards at the Lyceum on this family-friendly backstage tour. Visit the green room, find out how the lighting and sound comes together, explore the current set and feel what it's like to appear onstage. You might even see the theatre ghost! Lyceum Youth TheatreLyceum Youth Theatre currently has spaces available in its weekly drama classes for Play LYT (for 5-7 year olds) and Mini LYT (for 8-10 year olds) Classes start this week so to book see the information below! LYT Play (5-7 years) Play combines games and lively activities, exploring drama through play. Sessions are run by drama tutors who have specific professional experience working with this age range. The Usher Hall and Live Music Now Scotland team up on a brand new initiative, Edinburgh's first ever Emerging Artists Series. Live Music Now supports young musicians of all genres at the outset of their professional careers while making high quality live music as widely accessible as possible. The Emerging Artists Series offers everyone a chance to hear tomorrow's star performers today! A Burns' Day celebration of Scottish traditional music brings the first Emerging Artists Series to a close, led by Anna Massie and Mairearad Green along with Gary Innes and Ewan Robertson.
