The Christmas shows may be almost over, but there's still plenty to do in Edinburgh. In fact, there's a whole new season of events bursting forth on the Edinburgh arts scene. There are new programmes at the Queen's Hall, a fresh run of classes at Dance Base and the highly-awaited Voice of a City Family Day and Concert with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra coming up early next month. Don't miss out, spring into the season today!

Scottish Chamber Orchestra presents The Voice of a City: The Lord Provost's People Concert Saturday 5 February, 3pm
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is joined by singers of all ages from across Edinburgh for a family concert celebrating the city's riches in music and words from past and present. The concert opens with The Land of Counterpane- poems from Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses set to music by Howard Blake, composer of The Snowman. It's followed by The Voice of a City, an affectionate portrait of Edinburgh by Edward Harper which brings the streets of Auld Reekie alive with the help of the One o'Clock Gun, Sean Connery, Miss Jean Brodie and many others. The SCO is joined by a massed community choir of all ages and City Organist John Kitchen, conducted by Garry Walker.

Bookbug These 30-minute fun and lively activity sessions are for families with children from birth to four. Come along to join in with songs, rhymes and a story. Starting at 11am & 1.30pm
Composition session: setting words to music Come along to this interactive demonstration - for older teens and adults - delivered by music staff and students from Stevenson College Edinburgh. Bring a favourite contemporary poem you'd like to set to an original musical accompaniment - or just drop in and listen. 12pm - 2pm
iCompose These 30-minute workshops are open to children and parents of all ages, with no need for prior musical knowledge. The musicians from Drake Music Scotland will be on hand to help you discover your composing talents! 11am /12pm / 1pm

Family-Friendly Backstage Tours Royal Lyceum Theatre Saturday 5 February, 10am and 11am Tread the boards at the Lyceum on this family-friendly backstage tour. Don't Look Back Filmhouse Saturday 26 February, 1pm In 1965, D A Pennebaker documented Bob Dylan's British tour; the result is one of the most acclaimed music films of all time. Shot with a handheld camera in black-and-white, the film follows Dylan from limo to hotel room as he relaxes with friends, antagonises the press and deals with managers.
Across the Universe Filmhouse Sunday 27 February, 1pm Gritty yet whimsical, Across the Universe is a dazzling movie musical that uses Beatles songs to recreate the rebellious spirit of the 1960s. Dance Base Spring Programme Now Open for Booking

There are a fantastic variety of courses available from Ballroom, Salsa, Tango and Swing to Contemporary, Yoga, Pilates, Jazz, Hip hop, Breakdance, Ceilidh, Highland and Belly dance. Brand new courses for Spring '11 include Fosse Fanatics, Roaring 20s, Rugrat Rumpus and Flow, with many more. There are classes for all ages from 1 to 100. Many courses are held at the Grassmarket venue with a growing number at Dance Base's new venue, Thomas Morton Hall in Leith. Quick, there's still time to book your Dance Base course! Classes start this week but you can sign up for any available course until Friday 21 January.

Arthur Miller's modern social tragedy explores the life and loves of the family of a dock worker in post-war New York. Eddie Carbone lives with his wife and niece, a happy enough family with an intense love and sense of duty locking them together. But life becomes a struggle for meaning when the family is rocked by the arrival of two illegal immigrant cousins, and tensions mount as an eruption of violence beckons.

Scottish Chamber Orchestra presents Stravinsky: The Chamber Ballets Saturday 22 January, 7.30pm & Thursday 10 February, 7.30pm
Join the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for Stravinsky: The Chamber Ballets, a series celebrating the composer's ballet music which he wrote for the great choreographer George Balanchine. SCO Principal Conductor Robin Ticciati pairs each ballet score with a symphony by Haydn, whose music matches Stravinsky in wit and playfulness. January's concert features a performance of Jeu de Cartes with Haydn's Symphony No 83 'La Poule' while February sees Apollon Musagète paired with Symphony No 96 'Miracle'. Pre-concert talks will take place at 6.30pm before each performance, including a conversation with Scottish Ballet's Artistic Director Ashley Page.
