In the Galleries

Ellsworth Kelly’s Blue PanelReducing art to its most essential geometric forms, Ellsworth Kelly’s Blue Panel is much more than it appears at first glance. Kelly often takes inspiration from the geometries of everyday life—an open door or window, a shadow cast by a tree, the spaces between things—and skews and simplifies them into his trademark monochromatic panels.

Blue Panel explores the many meanings and nuances of painting with its voluptuous blue that takes on its own physical presence as it interacts with the architectural space around it. The painting seems to float on the wall while also immersing the viewer in a full-fledged color experience that must be seen in real life to fully appreciate.
