Discovering the Art Treasures at the OMA

The Orlando Museum of Art's permanent collections provide Central Florida residents and visitors with daily inspiration. 

 

On view now: Great Blue Heron, 1834, by John James Audubon, keen observer of birds and nature, known for his wildlife and bird studies. This art treasure was chosen for sponsorship by Brighthouse. Diane Culpepper, VP of Government Relations for Brighthouse shared, "Great Blue Heron is a remarkable piece of art that reflects the light, flora and fauna of Florida."

Hardly a Liquid 

The phrase hard as glass is pretty common. Although solid at room temperature, glass is actually classified as a liquid. Artists will melt it, bend it, break it, glue it to give us their three-dimensional representation of this versatile material.

Fun Spring Youth and Family Programs

Home School Classes*

March 4 / 1-3pm. Explore the world through art in this program offered for PreK through 8th grade home-schooled students. Parents may stay or drop off.


Art Encounters: Pre-Columbian Vessel*

March 6 / 1:30-2:30pm. This drop-in program is for visitors of all ages to create a "make and take" work of art! Be inspired by the OMA's art treasures on view and then create your own.

 

Art Adventures* March Winds May Blow...

March 22 / 9:30-10:30am. Join us for a fun play date at the OMA. Specially designed gallery hunts and spring inspired stories make art come alive! $10 per adult with one child; $8 for OMA members with one child; $3 per additional child. 


Sketching in the Galleries for Families 

March 27 / 1:30 - 2:30pm. "Research the Art of the Ancient Americas" provides sketching in the tradition of the masters.  Materials provided.  

 

Spring Art Camp 2011* 

March 28 - April 1 / 9am - 4pm. Enjoy a week or just come for a day to explore art from various cultures and to create in paint or sculpture.

Gallery Talks 

March 2 / 1:30-2pm. Examine the OMA's collections with associate curator of adult programs, Jan Clanton. Tours are free with paid admission to the OMA Galleries.

 

New! UCF Lecture Series: The Art of Conversation 

March 13 / 1:30pm. Dr. M. C. Santana presents Reading Desire: Magnetism and the Body, a theme introduced in the XX-XY/Gender Representation in Art exhibition. Free event. Followed by tour of exhibition, free with Gallery admission. 

 

Video Series 

March 23 / Noon-1pm. Enjoy a video on great masters of fine art with your own brown bag lunch. We will supply the coffee and cookies!

 

New! Yoga: Enhancement for Life 

March 20 / Noon-1pm. Laura Daniel, co-owner of Winter Park Yoga, will help participants develop flexibility, stretching and a yoga path to enhance all lifestyles. *Pre-registration is required.
