BeauSoleilLousiana Dance Party, Part II Whereas Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, our heroes of last week’s concert, reflect the African and Caribbean influences that made the port city of New Orleans America’s most distinctive musical culture, BeauSoleil draws on a different heritage. When the French were expelled from the maritime provinces of Canada, Acadie, in the 18th century, many made their way to the bayou country of southwest Louisiana. These Acadians became known as Cajuns, and the music and culinary traditions they created are now enjoyed throughout the world. BeauSoleil is the essential band that led the Cajun music revival of the 1970s and beyond. Fronted by the celebrated virtuosic fiddler and singer Michael Doucet, the group has dug deeply into the culture to capture the beauty and pathos, the joy and soul of the music like no other. They have worked just as hard to advance the boundaries of Cajun music, which has earned them numerous Grammy Awards and a large and devoted following. Come, enjoy, and dance! Additional InformationPicnics are always welcome, and at summer concerts Iris, the Museum Restaurant, provides a varied and delicious menu including a selection of fine wines and beers. Concessions are offered for all films. If you plan on sitting on the lawn for a concert or movie, don't forget your blankets and folding chairs. But remember to leave your pets at home, as they are not allowed in the amphitheater. Be sure to check out additional information such as our weather policy and rules regarding food and alcohol.
