In Praise of Independents: The Flaherty
The Flaherty Seminar, the celebrated international forum for independent filmmakers, artists, academics, curators, critics, and students, now in its 56th year, takes place over the course of a week each summer in rural upstate New York. The theme for the 2010 Flaherty was "Work"—as a means of survival, source of identity, and ceaseless setting for ritual, history, fulfillment, and discontent. The guest curator was media critic and writer Dennis Lim.

Although digital scanning is regularly utilized in the film restoration process itself, digital files are shot back to 35 mm film for high-quality, authentic presentation. With thanks to Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, and Criterion for use of their vault prints.
