| | In Praise of Independents: The Flaherty The Flaherty Seminar, the celebrated international forum for independent filmmakers, artists, academics, curators, critics, and students, now in its 56th year, takes place over the course of a week each summer in rural upstate New York. The theme for the 2010 Flaherty was "Work"—as a means of survival, source of identity, and ceaseless setting for ritual, history, fulfillment, and discontent. The guest curator was media critic and writer Dennis Lim.
