New Travel Program for Members

The Portland Art Museum is pleased to introduce a travel program as a new and exciting benefit of general membership. The inaugural trip to San Francisco, October 6-9, 2011, features an unforgettable 4-day itinerary exploring the robust art scene thriving in San Francisco, packed with cultural insights via behind-the-scenes tours of museums, galleries, and local treasures. The tour also features a day excursion to the nearby Napa Valley where the group will explore the vast di Rosa art preserve, enjoy lunches and tastings at renowned vineyards, and visit the Hess Collection, an outstanding private art collection and winery.

Spaces on the tour are limited. For more information and to check availability, contact Jennifer Jacobs of The Jacobs Group | Arts Consulting & Creative Travel at 503-922-2863.

The land, and its propensity for change, has had a profound effect on his work. His often massive, site-related constructions involve the passage of time and performance while engaging natural elements and random change to ultimately complete his sculptural works.

Mildred Pierce's Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon Visit the Northwest Film Center

Sunday, July 24, 7 p.m.
This month, the Northwest Film Center welcomes two of the most accomplished names in contemporary cinema, filmmaker Todd Haynes and producer Christine Vachon, to the Whitsell Auditorium. Portland resident and Hollywood heavyweight, Haynes has been hailed as one of cinema's most eloquent voices with a unique body of work including Safe (1995), Velvet Goldmine (1998), Far From Heaven (2002), I'm Not There (2007), and, most recently, the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011). In addition to producing all of Haynes' feature work, Vachon's producing résumé includes such diverse films as Happiness (Todd Solondz, 1998), Boys Don't Cry (Kimberly Peirce, 1999), and The Company (Robert Altman, 2003). Together, Haynes and Vachon will discuss their work and converse with the audience about the intersections of art, commerce, and collaboration in the world of independent film.

On Saturday, July 23, the Film Center screens Todd Haynes' Mildred Pierce in its entirety. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit nwfilm.org.
