Carolina Chocolate Drops Come Home

It’s been a hot summer, but there are lots of cool events yet to come as part of our 15th season of Arts in the Museum Park.

Carolina Chocolate Drops
Saturday, August 27 | 8 pm

It’s a homecoming celebration of sorts for this amazing young band that’s taking the world by storm. Based in the Triangle, the Carolina Chocolate Drops have revived, reimagined, and re-energized the old-time stringband music that was the staple of entertainment for rural white and black southerners for generations. The London Evening Standard reported on the group’s recent appearance in that city: “The Union Chapel was packed last night for a retro revival of black-American fiddle band music. But it doesn’t take long to understand the appeal—fiddle and banjo music presented with a collective passion and musical skill.”

Wherever they go—and they go everywhere—the Chocolate Drops create a sensation. They’ve been on the road for months now, and they’ve chosen the NCMA to stage a big reunion with the homefolks. You won’t want to miss the triumphant return of our Grammy-winning heroes and welcome two new members of the band—Hubby Jenkins and Adam Matta—along with founding members Rhiannon Giddens and Dom Flemons.

The show features a breathtaking revue of giant puppets, masks, stiltwalkers, shadow plays, and live music.

Celebrate summer’s close with America’s favorite family band, NCMA favorites Dan Zanes and Friends.

Outdoor Cinema Season Extended!

We smartened up this year and left some evenings open for movies that succumbed to the inevitable stormy weather of summer. These include the recent blockbusters Inception and The King’s Speech.

Please note that Inception will be screened Friday, August 26, at 8:30 pm. The King’s Speech will be shown Friday, September 2, at 8:30 pm.
