Examine the tremendous impact of Whitman's Leaves of Grass on American culture with Amy Gaplin, Project Curator for American Art, as she makes the case that Whitman's writings provide a lens through which we can understand or "read" American art. This lecture is in anticipation of a dynamic exhibition of American art drawn from the collections of The San Diego Museum of Art, the Timken Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The exhibition, entitled Behold America! Art of the United States from Three San Diego Museums will open in the fall of 2012. Lecture sponsored by the Museum Docent Council. |
