Based on the kabuki play Kanjinchō, Akira Kurosawa’s The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail uses elments of kabuki to depict a clan's escape from enemy territory by desguising themselves as monks. Junko's Shamisen uses live action, cell, and stop motion animation to tell a redemption tale of a child avenging her grandfather's murder. Before the film, Leonard Pronko, Professor of Theater at Pomona College, will give a lecture on kabuki theater and the Kanjinchō story. These films are shown in conjunction with the exhibtion Dreams and Diversions.

Teen artists are invited to the Museum to celebrate the opening of the Museum-generated exhibition of K-12th grade student artwork, Young Art 2011: Making Multiples.  Meet other teen artists while having the chance to learn about the ideas behind this unique exhibition.  Café activities will include art making inspired by the work on view in the Museum galleries, as well as, an exhibition-related performance and/or a presentation from a Museum staff member involved in the development of the exhibition.  Light refreshments will be served.

Bus Trip to the Norton Simon Museum

Take a guided tour of the Norton Simon Museum's magnificent collection of Old Masters, 19th century French pantings, and their extensive Contemporary Art Collection. In addition to the hour and a half tour, the trip includes a fun-filled raffle, and refreshments, coffee, and wine while on the bus.
