August Concerts If you’ve been waiting to treat yourself to a summer concert or two or a movie under the stars, this is the month to indulge. An amazing array of talent awaits you in the Museum Park Theater. Bring your picnic and make it a night to remember.
An Evening with Gillian Welch Wednesday, August 3 | 8 pm
Stunning reviews for Gillian Welch’s new CD The Harrow and the Harvest and her first major tour in nearly a decade. Tickets are going fast. Get ready for the performance by listening to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings' recent Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross.
An Evening with Leo Kottke Saturday, August 6 | 8 pm
One of America’s iconic guitarists, Leo Kottke brings his signature sound to the Park Theater for an evening of great music and storytelling. Kottke’s virtuosity on both six- and 12-string guitar has mesmerized audiences for decades, and his “Armadillo” album, released in 1969, remains a beloved classic.

Bearing bagpipes, fiddles, and more, Scotland’s premier roots-music band returns to the Park Theater stage with dazzling songs and tunes that provide the perfect warm-up to Sylvain Chomet’s poignant animated feature The Illusionist, a tale of a French magician who starts life anew in the Scottish Highlands. Our Hospitality Friday, August 12 | 9 pm
A Buster Keaton silent-movie classic with live piano accompaniment by David Drazin, one of the world’s best improvisational players. It’s chock-full of Keaton’s hilarious stunts and comedic set pieces.
The Social Network Friday, August 19 | 8:30 pm
A strong Oscar contender for Best Picture, the movie is a riveting account of Mark Zuckerberg’s ruthless quest to develop the most powerful social-networking engine in the world, becoming America’s youngest billionaire in the process.
Calling all Tweeps! The Museum is hosting its first Tweetup in conjunction with The Social Network. Social media geeks and tweeps alike join us at 7pm on August 19 for socializing, networking, giveaways, and good times. Registration is required and cost includes a movie ticket. Back to the Future Saturday, August 20 | 8:30 pm
The NCMA Contemporaries are pleased to take you back to the past with the presentation of a 1980s classic, starring Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox at his finest.
Additional Information Picnics are always welcome, and at summer concerts Iris, the Museum Restaurant, provides a varied and delicious menu including a selection of fine wines and beers. Concessions are offered for all films.
If you plan on sitting on the lawn for a concert or movie, don't forget your blankets and folding chairs. But remember to leave your pets at home, as they are not allowed in the amphitheater.
