Arts in the Museum Park

Carolina Chocolate Drops

Our concert series takes on a folksy and traditional tune with Gillian Welch, Leo Kottke, Battlefield Band, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. These modern musicians with old-time roots will keep your feet tappin’ and your hands clappin’ all through the night.

Back to the Future

Films this month range across the genre spectrum! The silent film Our Hospitality follows the computer-generated family flick Rango, and modern classics The Social Network and Inception are interspaced with cult hit Back to the Future.

Three Graces: Les Trois Femmes Noires, Mickalene Thomas, 2011Mickalene Thomas’s bejeweled, lacquered panels display African American women in confident, provocative poses that both highlight stereotypical notions of beauty and celebrate femininity and power.

Her works are familiar to the Museum as a part of 30 Americans, and a recent acquisition to the NCMA’s permanent collection, Three Graces: Les Trois Femmes Noires, will be on view in the Modern and Contemporary galleries in West Building starting August 16.
