Summer at the Museum

Enjoy cinema under the stars with the NW Film Center

Top Down: Rooftop Cinema
Thursdays through August 25
The Northwest Film Center's beloved outdoor summer film series returns to the panoramic parking rooftop of the Hotel deLuxe for another round of great movies and unbeatable views. Each evening begins at 8 p.m. with refreshments and live music and the screenings start when the sun sets (between 9 and 9:15 p.m.). Films not to miss include Viva Las Vegas (1964), featuring Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret at their rollicking best, and Goldfinger (1964), starring the ever-suave Sean Connery as James Bond. From cool cars to karate chops, and shaken (never stirred) martinis, Top Down has it all.

Admission: $9. For a complete schedule of screenings, visit nwfilm.org.

New exhibition: Tamarind Touchstone

Tamarind Touchstone: Fabulous at Fifty
August 6 – November 13, 2011
Founded in 1960 by Los Angeles artist June Wayne, Tamarind Workshop, now Tamarind Institute, has created a fifty year legacy of fine art lithography equal to the ranks of the great printing ateliers of Paris--Mourlot, Maeght, Desjobert--and advanced the aesthetics and experimental lithography techniques along the way. As part of the continuing exhibition series exploring important print ateliers and publishers that have included Mixografia and Portland's Mahaffey Fine Arts Prints, Tamarind Touchstone: Fabulous at Fifty presents a retrospective look at the production and noted artists who have made Tamarind one of the United States' great independent print workshops.

The exhibition includes 61 important works by artists such as Josef Albers, Robert Colescott, Roy DeForest, Leon Golub, Louise Nevelson, Ed Ruscha, Sam Francis, Willie Cole, Kiki Smith, Jonathan Lasker, Nicola Lopez, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith.
