MADRID.- PHotoEspaña and Loewe organize Paparazzo Extraordinaire!, a retrospective exhibition with over 100 photographs of the paparazzo most famous and controversial of the twentieth century. Ron Galella did not invent the word paparazzo, but he did personalize it, redefining the relationship between the film star and photographer. Today he is the most famous and polemical photographer of celebrities in the world, and his photos have been published in hundreds of magazines such as Time, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, Vanity Fair, People, Rolling Stones, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Life. Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, Cary Grant, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Paul Newman, and Mick Jagger are just some of the stars Galella has photographed. NEW YORK (REUTERS).- The iconic white dress Marilyn Monroe wore in "The Seven Year Itch" may be headed back to New York City, where a gust of air from a subway grate sent it billowing upward and into movie history. A New York-based technology company is raising funds to buy the dress when it comes up for auction later this month in Los Angeles and to bring it home to New York to be placed on permanent display, possibly in a museum. Profiles in History, the auction house handling the sale, says the dress is worth between $1 million and $2 million. LONDON.- On the 29th June, Bonhams will include two paintings that include self portraits by L.S Lowry and Alfred Munnings in the 20th Century British Art sale in New Bond Street. Group of People with the Artist is estimated to sell for £100,000 -150,000 and was executed in the same year as Lowry staged his seventh one-man show in London. By this time (1961) Lowry's artistic reputation was already formidable with many of his regular collectors attempting to buy his works prior to the official opening. He had begun to move away from his ambitious and complex industrial landscapes and focus more on people. The eight figures in Group of People with the Artist, including men, women and children are collected together in a huddle on a street. Only the subtlest of references indicate the setting; a short diagonal line running through the signature marks the pavement. However, one figure is clearly isolated and distant from the group ... NEW YORK, NY.- While the vitality and stimulation of the urban environment can be pleasant, those living in or visiting densely populated areas, such as New York, can have wildly different experiences. The ever-present cacophony of traffic, construction, and commerce; the struggle for mental and physical space; and the anxious need for constant communication in person or via technology are relentless assaults on the senses. One wonders how locals and visitors can escape, find respite, and make peace with their space in this city that never sleeps. The Guggenheim Museum responds with stillspotting nyc, a two-year multidisciplinary project that takes the museums architecture and urban studies programming out into the streets of the citys boroughs. Every three to five months, stillspots are identified, created, or transformed by architects, artists, designers, composers, and philoso- ...
