Pulse Shadows
ecat and Hebrides Ensemble join forces to bring you one of the finest chamber works of the late 20th Century - Harrison Birtwistle's Pulse Shadows. Come along for the Scottish premiere of this work of ingenuity and magic, described as one of his finest achievements and a piece of 'extraordinary weight and emotional complexity' (The Guardian). Drawing inspiration from the poetry of Paul Celan and the Freizes and Fantasias of Purcell, Pulse Shadows interleaves movements for string quartet with works for ensemble and soprano. They will be joined by the distinguished American soprano, Claron McFadden, who has performed Pulse Shadows throughout Europe with absolute authority and depth of emotion. ecat's Peter Nelson, Hebrides Ensemble Artistic Director and Cellist William Conway, and Claron McFadden talk about the work in their latest podcast.

This world-class exhibition of works by leading and international artists Jim Dine, Kiki Smith and Lesley Dill, celebrates the diversity of the medium of lithography and the accomplishments of the renowned Tamarind Institute of New Mexico. Tamarind Institute is a non-profit centre for lithography that trains master-printers and houses a professional collaborative studio for artists. Founded in 1960 in Los Angeles, Tamarind played a significant role in reviving the art of lithography in the United States and continues to provide professional training and creative opportunities for artists.

This concert features the world premiere of Pastoral, the last music written by Edinburgh-based composer, Edward Harper. Completed by Lyell Cresswell, using the surviving manuscript and Harper's notes, the piece is a setting of Burns' poetry, performed by Scottish mezzo Karen Cargill. Berio's Folk Songs, Battistelli's Fair is Foul, Foul is Fair, based on Macbeth, and Britten's Suite on English Folk Tunes (A time there was) complete the literary themed concert, conducted by Garry Walker.

The final instalment of Stravinsky: The Chamber Ballets, a series celebrating the composer's ballet music, features Orpheus, the tale of the hero's journey to the Underworld. Over 100 photographs are brought together in an exhibition to celebrate the work of Marcus Adams (1875-1959), who devoted 50 years to photographing royal children. Adams overturned the long tradition of formal royal portraiture and between 1926 and 1956 created a unique record of two generations of royal children, presenting a new, relaxed image of royalty. Vintage prints from almost all the royal sittings are included, many formerly part of the personal collection of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Manager to join the National Galleries of Scotland Estates and Project Management Department. The department is responsible for managing all aspects of the NGS estate, including involvement in health and safety procedures and capital projects. The Facilities Manager (M&E) is responsible for all matters relating to building services, including design, installation and maintenance, and ensuring compliance with relevant statutory instruments.
The candidate will have up to date knowledge of current regulations and statutory requirements of electrical systems and testing, as well as relevant experience of maintaining buildings electrical installations, distribution and systems. Sound operating experience of close control HVAC systems is also essential. Experience of working in a similar Arts environment and knowledge of BS5454 would be highly advantageous.

The Society exists to advise, support and encourage all participants at the Festival Fringe; to provide comprehensive information services, including ticketing, to its participants and the public; and to promote the entire Fringe as a festival in the context of Edinburgh and its other festivals.
For the Festival season we are seeking two roles in the marketing and sponsorship department. Both roles are full time temporary six month fixed term contracts.
Friends of the Fringe Assistant The Friends Assistant will be the main point of contact for all Friends of the Fringe and plays an important role in building and maintaining relationships with these key supporters of the Fringe.
Marketing and Sponsorship Assistant This role, supporting the head of marketing and sponsorship, involves marketing, admin and events management.

| Booksales Administrator

Salary: £7.15 per hour (office rate), £8.00 (during the festival)
Contract: 2 May - 9 September 2011 (May be extended to early October).
The Booksales Administrator will provide administrative support to the Booksales Manager including processing book orders and producing staff rotas in addition to the selection and training of staff and overseeing the daily operation of several areas during the Book Festival.
Based in the Festival's office at 5a Charlotte Square and on site in Charlotte Square Gardens during the Book Festival, the Booksales Administrator may also be required to work occasionally, on an ad hoc basis, at the Festival's warehouse in Livingston. If the contract is extended to early October, the Booksales Administrator will work at the Livingston warehouse processing returns.
The candidate should have excellent administrative skills, some supervisory or management experience and a willingness to undertake physical as well as administrative tasks - ideally with experience working in a warehouse or goods-inwards environment.

Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Exhibition |

In 2000, the City of Edinburgh Council, in partnership with the Scottish Arts Council (now Creative Scotland) launched a scheme of funding to support individual artists and makers based in the city. Formerly known as the Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award Scheme (EVAAC), the Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (VAA) and Craft Maker Awards: Edinburgh (CMA) schemes have supported over 200 proposals to develop new work and creative practice.
To celebrate the ongoing success of these schemes, the City of Edinburgh Council's Culture and Sport Division will present an exhibition highlighting some of the supported individuals and their work at the City Art Centre from November 2011 to February 2012.
To qualify for selection, artists and makers must have received funding between the financial years 2000/01 and 2009/10 from at least one of the following schemes - Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award (EVAAC), Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (VAA) and/or Craft Maker Awards: Edinburgh (CMA). Funded projects must have concluded and a final report submitted to and approved by the scheme administrator.
