This year's Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival 2011 runs from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 May at venues across Edinburgh and beyond! Tickets are on sale now at the Traverse Theatre Box Office on 0131 228 1404 or online at www.traverse.co.uk. The Festival presents the finest selection of shows from Scotland and across the world; each and every one adding their own wonderful character and zest to a programme of exciting and stimulating shows to suit children and adults of every age.

To give you a flavour of what to expect, this year's programme includes: Mr Benn - the Extraordinary Adventures of an Ordinary Man (for everyone 4+), presented by Tall Stories; Philip Pullman's Clockwork (for everyone 8+) a co-production from Visible Fictions and Scottish Opera; the multi-award winning White from Catherine Wheels (for everyone 2 - 4), Is This a Dagger? The Story of Macbeth from Wee Stories (for everyone 8+) one of the world's best puppet companies, Puppentheater Halle, with their adaptation of the most famous Grimm's tale of all, The Golden Goose (for everyone 7 - 10 years old) and the award-winning adaptation of Michael Ende's Ophelia's Shadow Theatre, Miss Ophelia from Het Filiaal (for everyone 6 years old and over) and many more to delight and excite!

Two Weeks of Sensational Science

Edinburgh International Science Festival

Science FestivalThis Easter, look out for a wealth of informative and engaging family events from Edinburgh International Science Festival.

 

All seven floors of our flagship family venue, City Art Centre, will be packed with activities, exhibits and hands-on workshops. You'll find scientific fun for all ages, from your youngest explorers to the computer programmers of the future. New events for 2011 include the magical World of Bubbles and the chance to help make a practical difference to climate change inThe Future's Bright Trail. You'll also find Science Festival Families events across the city. You can join TV's most extreme scientist, Dr Bunhead, for a pyrotechnic extravaganza at the Usher Hall on 9 April; hear captivating scientific tales for all ages at the Scottish Storytelling Centre; and explore a host of interactive events and activities at the Royal Botanic Garden and National Museums. The Science Festival runs from 9-22 April.

Science Festival at the Botanics
RBGE Logo 2009Edinburgh International Science Festival returns to the Garden from Saturday 9 to Monday 25 April, and they are celebrating International Year of Chemistry. There's a whole host of events throughout the festival, with full details listed on the Royal Botanic Gardens website.
Here a just a few highlights:

Atomise!

Do you feel a reaction coming on? Welcome to Atomise, a place that's alive with experiments, intriguing gadgets and hands-on workshops to bring you a day out full of fizz and fascination.

Scents and Sensitivity Glasshouse Trail

A chemical quiz through the magnificent glasshouses of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. From aphrodisiacs to zest, follow a new family trail that explores a multitude of hidden chemicals used by plants to attract and repel, seduce or poison their neighbours.

Bugs V Drugs

How come some bugs can outsmart the drugs that are supposed to kill them? (12 and 13 April only).

Healing Herbs

See if you can match the plant to the ailment in the Healing Herbs game, make a bracelet with seeds from the Colombian rainforest and learn about Scottish and Colombian medicinal plants. (16 and 17 April only).

Finding NemoFinding Nemo

Finding Nemo follows Marlin, an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the sea for his missing son, Nemo. Marlin's journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory, a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly - and often very hungry - aquatic creatures. WALL·E

Sunday 24 April, 1pm & Monday 25 April, 11am

In the far future, the last robot left on an abandoned Earth is a clunky, box-shaped trash compactor droid named WALL·E. On his own for centuries, he's still carrying out his programming and processing all the rubbish he finds, but over the years he's become terribly lonely. His solitude is abruptly ended with the arrival of a gigantic spacecraft and a sleek, beautiful robot named EVE... Kermit the FrogMUPPETS™, MUSIC & MAGIC: JIM HENSON'S LEGACY

Monday 18 - Thursday 28 April

In association with the Jim Henson Legacy Foundation and Brooklyn Academy of Music, Filmhouse is delighted to present an in-depth retrospective of work by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, during the Easter holidays. In addition to many of Henson's feature films, the programme will include a wide-ranging look at his short films, rarities and world-famous TV shows. There's something to do for free every day at the National Museum of Scotland. It's an experience the whole family will enjoy with plenty of gadgets, cosmic rays and science secrets. You can release your inner inventor and make cool contraptions. Discover Science with scientists from the University of Edinburgh - explore genetic modification, find out what a vet does and discover how the human minds works. Don't forget to head over to the National Museum of Flight on the 22- 25 April to build your own model airplane. Will yours fly the furthest of flop the fastest?    

World War Two Days

World Wars Experience

Sunday 1 May, 10am - 5pm
Meet our re-enactors and their military vehicles from the First and Second World Wars, see them in battle and watch the skies for an aerobatic flying display. Join in our street party, learn to 'make do and mend' in our craft workshops, find out how your grandparents used to play as children and dance to the music of the time. Age restrictions may apply for some activities.

Can you match the monarchs to the items of clothing in the royal wardrobe? Pick up a trail at the entrance to the Palace and try our fun fashion challenge. After you have completed your challenge, visit the Family Room to try on replica clothing from the past and make some royal fashion  accessories of your own such as ruffs and lockets. Family activities are run on a drop-in basis and are suitable for children aged 5-11. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All materials included in the standard admission to the Palace.
