 Summer has started at Dance Base, and there are some spectacular workshops on offer.
In May, you can do some high-flying in Aerial Conditioning (Sunday 15 May, 11am-12.30pm, £14),or try out ballet from a whole new perspective in Neo Classical Ballet (Sunday 22 May, 1-3pm, £18). Both of those workshops require a bit of experience in the relevant style, but should be an amazing opportunity for an upgrade on your skills. For those without a lot of experience, there are a couple of workshops in June that are suitable for dancers of all levels: Commercial Hip Hop (Sunday 5 June, 11am - 1pm, £18) take urban moves and makes them glossy and glam with total credibility, and Twist and Shout (Sunday 12 June, 1pm -3pm, £18) brings the swing of the 60s right up to date. Macbeth is dead. Under cover of night, an English army has swept through the land and taken the seat of power. Attempting to restore peace, the commanding officer is beset by a brutal guerrilla uprising and simmering discontent amongst his own inexperienced troops. Increasingly isolated from his own men and Scottish allies alike, his efforts appear futile as the situation spins out of control.
David Greig's exhilarating play is a vision of one man's attempt to restore peace in a country ravaged by war. This production marks the first collaboration between the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company and these performances at the Lyceum are the Scottish première of this critically acclaimed play and sell out London success! You may know Dave Anderson as the Bank Manager in City Lights, or Gregory's Dad in Gregory's Girl, but he started his career as a songwriter. His songs for The Steamie are being sung (somewhere) right now. Encouraged by the success of Tir na nOg ("Best New Musical" - Edinburgh 2007), Dave has produced this new mini-musicals with a cast of one! The theme is his teenage years, the late '50s, when Rock'n'Roll was King, and hair was, well, on his head. Expect hits (and forgotten classics) of the time, plus new songs of his own. Jennifer Scott (Assistant Curator, Paintings, The Royal Collection) explores a selection of British royal portraits from the fourteenth century to the present day. Why were they commissioned, who was their projected audience and location and - most importantly - what was the intended reaction of these contemporary viewers? Following the talk participants are invited to join Jennifer and colleagues for an exclusive look at key royal portraits on display in the Palace.

Marcus Adams: Royal Photographer Until Sunday 5 June
Over 100 photographs are brought together in an exhibition to celebrate the work of Marcus Adams (1875-1959), who devoted 50 years to photographing royal children. Adams overturned the long tradition of formal royal portraiture and between 1926 and 1956 created a unique record of two generations of royal children, presenting a new, relaxed image of royalty. Vintage prints from almost all the royal sittings are included, many formerly part of the personal collection of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
