Summer at Dance Base

Dance Base SummerSummer has started at Dance Base, and there are some spectacular workshops on offer.

In May, you can do some high-flying in Aerial Conditioning (Sunday 15 May, 11am-12.30pm, £14),or try out ballet from a whole new perspective in Neo Classical Ballet (Sunday 22 May, 1-3pm, £18). Both of those workshops require a bit of experience in the relevant style, but should be an amazing opportunity for an upgrade on your skills. For those without a lot of experience, there are a couple of workshops in June that are suitable for dancers of all levels: Commercial Hip Hop (Sunday 5 June, 11am - 1pm, £18) take urban moves and makes them glossy and glam with total credibility, and Twist and Shout (Sunday 12 June, 1pm -3pm, £18) brings the swing of the 60s right up to date. For more information, or to make a booking, call 0131 225 5525 or visit the Dancebase website.

ME (Mobile/Evolution)

Thursday 5 May, 7.30pm
Created and performed by Claire Cunningham, in association with Jess Curtis/Gravity and Waterbaby

"see ME, see talented charisma in motion" ***** The Herald

Cross the Forth Road Bridge next week and you will be in for a springtime treat as award-winning dancer/choreographer, Claire Cunningham, will be performing her highly acclaimed double bill ME (Mobile/Evolution) at the Adam Smith Theatre (Kirkcaldy) on Thursday 5th May. A biographical and humorous double bill that challenges audiences ideas of aesthetic, it showcases her exceptional dance
technique and impressive power, woven from humorous stories about doctors and dancing, bikes and ballet, all threaded together and balanced upon, hanging from, spinning on, and swinging on, crutches. Any possible sentimentality is undercut with a healthy dose of Scottish sarcasm. View a clip on www.clairecunningham.co.uk.

"A daft, boisterous big-hearted comedy." - The Guardian, FOUR STARS

"delightful performances." - Edinburgh Spotlight, FOUR STARS

Ageing bachelor Arnolphe decides to marry his innocent ward Agnes and mould her into the ideal wife... Only he hasn't told her yet. And, unbeknownst to him, Agnes, however, has already fallen for the handsome young Horace who, unaware of Arnolphe's intentions, trustingly confides to the older man the madly-in-love young pair's marriage plans. Insanely jealous, Arnolphe plots against his rival with increasingly outrageous and hilarious consequences. For more information please visit www.lyceum.org.uk/agnes.

DunsinaneDunsinane

Friday 13 May - Saturday 4 June
By David Greig

Macbeth is dead. Under cover of night, an English army has swept through the land and taken the seat of power. Attempting to restore peace, the commanding officer is beset by a brutal guerrilla uprising and simmering discontent amongst his own inexperienced troops. Increasingly isolated from his own men and Scottish allies alike, his efforts appear futile as the situation spins out of control.

David Greig's exhilarating play is a vision of one man's attempt to restore peace in a country ravaged by war. This production marks the first collaboration between the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company and these performances at the Lyceum are the Scottish première of this critically acclaimed play and sell out London success! The cast includes Siobhan Redmond as the fiery Gruach, Jonny Phillips as Siward and Brian Ferguson as Malcolm. For more information please visit www.lyceum.org.uk/dunsinane.

Arts Worker Offer:
HALF PRICE tickets for Dunsinane on Wed 18th or Thursday 19th May in the stalls/upper circle. Maximum of two tickets per customer. This offer is not available online. Quote 'TAB arts worker' when booking. To book please phone 0131 248 4848.

Dave AndersonSHOO-BE-DO! Or...How to Talk to Old People, With Dave Anderson

Saturday 14 May, 7.30pm

You may know Dave Anderson as the Bank Manager in City Lights, or Gregory's Dad in Gregory's Girl, but he started his career as a songwriter. His songs for The Steamie are being sung (somewhere) right now. Encouraged by the success of Tir na nOg ("Best New Musical" - Edinburgh 2007), Dave has produced this new mini-musicals with a cast of one! The theme is his teenage years, the late '50s, when Rock'n'Roll was King, and hair was, well, on his head. Expect hits (and forgotten classics) of the time, plus new songs of his own. Come along for this fantastic new show that is part stand up, part cabaret, part musical theatre and 100% entertainment.
